AIXM Software Development Kit

The building blocks behind our applications, ready for yours.

Every ANNEA application is assembled from the same set of libraries and components. The AIXM Software Development Kit makes them available to software teams, system integrators and ANSPs, so you can add AIXM reading, viewing or origination to your own systems without starting from scratch.

How It Fits Together

The kit is organised in layers. Each layer builds only on the layers below it, and each concern has exactly one owner: geometry is calculated in one place, AIXM is read and written in one place, and the same user interface components appear in every application. Take a single library, or combine layers up to a complete origination application.

The engines are written in Kotlin Multiplatform and run unchanged on the JVM and in the browser. Components are built with React and TypeScript on top of MapLibre, and work in any host application: they do not require ANNEA's portal, login or styling.

Core Libraries

Kotlin Multiplatform libraries for the JVM and the browser.

AIXM Viewing & Map Components

Present AIXM data in your own user interfaces.

AIXM Origination Components

Build tools that create and change AIXM data.

From Template to AIXM

Every origination application built with the kit follows the same path from a user's intent to a validated AIXM change:

  1. Pick a template

From a catalogue of origination templates: closures, obstacles, navaids, AMDB elements and more.

  2. Fill in the form

Generated from the template, aware of AIXM data types, units and schedules.

  3. Find references

Look up related features in the baseline dataset, as a list or on the map.

  4. Accept derived values

FIRs, related features or overlaps computed from the baseline, proposed for review.

  5. Draw or import geometry

Map drawing with snapping, or GIS files, synchronised with the form.

  6. Generate and export

The engine produces validated AIXM TimeSlices, exported as AIXM XML.

Optional: projects and workspaces · free AIXM editing next to templates · event lifecycle and publication (Digital NOTAM)

Use Cases: Pick What You Need

The kit is modular. Each use case below adds to the previous one, so you install only the parts your solution needs.

1. Read, Query and Convert AIXM

Load AIXM datasets, browse features and TimeSlices, run spatial queries, validate data or convert it to GIS formats, in a web application or a JVM service.

Uses: AIXM Reader, Geo Core. Optionally the viewing and map components for a user interface.

2. Form-Based Origination

Add AIXM origination to an existing back-office tool: the user picks a template, completes a form and receives validated AIXM, with no map required.

Uses: use case 1, plus the AIXM Origination Engine, the origination runtime and form components.

3. Map-Based Digitisation

Capture geometry by drawing on the map, snapping to existing features or importing Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML or GeoPackage data and assigning it to template fields.

Uses: use case 2, plus the map platform with editing and GIS import.

4. Project-Based Origination Tools

Build applications where users collect many related changes in workspaces before exporting them, like our AMDB Generator. Advanced users can edit any AIXM property directly.

Uses: use case 3, plus workspace components and the advanced AIXM editor.

5. Digital NOTAM and Event Management

Originate temporary events with approval workflows, NOTAM and SNOWTAM text, publication and lifecycle management, like our Digital NOTAM Origination application.

Uses: use case 4, plus event components and the Digital NOTAM template package.

6. Server-Side and Batch Processing

Generate AIXM from templates in back-end services, interfaces or scheduled jobs, without any user interface. The same templates and engine produce identical results on the server and in the browser.

Uses: AIXM Reader and AIXM Origination Engine on the JVM.

Design Principles

More than twenty ANNEA applications, from the AIXM Validation Suite to the Digital NOTAM Origination application, run on the AIXM Software Development Kit.
